Latest Updates from Our Project:

Hey everyone!

A short update from me this month—all of the digital proofs are approved, and I'm expecting the physical proofs from the factory next week (should have some nice photos for the next update!). Once we make any changes arising from the proof review, we'll submit the final files and get our production timeline locked in.

This will let me give you a proper update on delivery estimates, which will of course still rely on the world not getting any crazier... fingers crossed!

Should also be able to get the digital editions out next month, which is exciting :)

Cheers!

Jack

August 2026

Good evening!

Since I last spoke with you all, it has Been The Summer Holidays. However, between the ice creams, board games and heat-related meltdowns I've also managed to get a lot of work done.

Writing

  • All three games are now written, cross-reviewed, externally-critiqued and proofread 🎉
  • All three rulebooks are now written, edited and proofread 🎉
  • In short: writing is done! ✅

Production

  • Much like with The Slow Knife, it proved too much to try and explain the games via a series of cards as I had hoped (and impractical for referencing during play, too!). So we're supplying a rulebook in the box instead.
  • Since paper is thinner than card, this has freed up some space in the box. Each game will now come with its own pad of player sheets for you to write on during play.
  • The digital files for the cards, box, rules booklet and player sheets for all three games are all with the manufacturer. I'm looking over the digital proofs this week, and it shouldn't be long before we can get the printed proof made up 🎉
I've found it very fun to do a bit of papercraft. I'm continuing to iterate on the box design, so some elements will have changed from these models. Some details are obscured for Top Secret Reasons 😉.
  • In the meantime, I've been making up proofs of my own! It's actually wildly complicated trying to get an illustration to nicely wrap around the box, involving duplicating the design five times in different slices and orientations 😅 so far it seems to be working nicely though, and I'll have a chance to adjust it again if necessary when I get the physical proofs from the factory.

Update frequency

Thanks to everyone who voted in the poll last update! I was not intending to change my update plan anyway, but it's great to hear you're overwhelmingly keen for them to continue.

Next steps

I've got some fiddling around to do with the slipcase artwork, I need to approve the proofs for the rest of the components and I need to prepare/update the digital editions of the games, but we're approaching the stage where my hands-on work with this project is done. Once we're locked-in with the manufacturer I'll be able to give you an updated timeline on when you can expect the physical games—and again, thank you for your patience 🙂

Alongside the production of the L&F games I will be helping Jason on the Notorious card game. I'm excited to get back into the design world after so long in the writing mines! (I love writing but design is my favourite task of all!)

That's it for this month, thanks all,

Jack

June / July 2026

Hey everyone!

Apologies for missing June's update, I thought I still had today to sort it 😅

Progress

  • Both Artefact and Counterpart are complete—editing, layout, rules, etc.
  • Bucket of Bolts is all written, about halfway through editing.
  • We carried out some fantastic playtests last month. A few moments of friction were identified, fixed, and playtested again to great success.
  • I'm continuing to work on all the templates and other fun parts of pre-production with our manufacturer.

Update frequency

I've been interested for a while now about whether people get much out of my monthly updates. Opinions differ between creators as to whether to post monthly, or only when there is something significant to update folks on.

I saw today that KS have a 'poll' feature now, and I'd love it if you weighed in on your preferred option. Unless there's a decisive rejection of monthly updates I probably won't change anything for this project, but I might do things differently in future. Feel free to share your thoughts in a comment, too.

Of course, the number of respondents is also interesting data—"who is still reading these updates at this point?" is also a valid question!

Mouse patches

Many of you have mouse patches in your order, but until now you've not known what they're going to look like. Well, I'm very happy to reveal the final artwork now! These are illustrations, and will be converted into embroidery patterns for the patches, but should give you a good idea of what the patches will look like :)

Three illustrations of mice. One is wearing a robot costume, one is playing cards, and one is dressed as a knight.

Hey folks,

A rare mid-month update from me, because I have things to announce!

  • Counterpart has finished editing and we're on to final proofreading.
  • I've been on a roll this month, and we've now written all 24 Captains for Bucket of Bolts. I love these weirdos, and you will too. Only 18 more cards to go before the whole trio is written!

Important stuff

  • ‼ Locking orders ‼ I'll be locking orders on Friday 22nd at 5pm (BST). We're approaching production with Panda so I'll need to lock them down so I know final product counts. If you want to add anything to your order, now's the time! Your shipping addresses will remain open until we're ready to send out the games.
  • ‼ Charging cards ‼ Shortly after that, I'll be charging cards for pre-orders and add-ons. The vast majority of you won't see any charges at this time, but if you've added any extra products you'll be charged for them soon. If you only backed for a standard pledge and didn't add anything extra in BackerKit, you will not be charged next week.
  • ‼ Shipping charges ‼ As planned, shipping will be charged closer to fulfillment. You won't be charged for that now. If you're one of the people being charged for add-ons / preorders, you'll be charged again for shipping later on.

As always, you can go back into your survey to make changes by following the link in your email or going here to recover your survey. This includes making changes to your address, which you'll be able to do right up until we lock addresses at the commencement of shipping.

Thanks for your patience folks, I'm getting rather excited by how close we are to seeing these games made real!

April 2026

Hey folks, back with another monthly update. April has been a little slow as expected (mostly taken up by the Easter school holidays), but we've still made some good progress. We've:

  • Continued to write Captain cards for Bucket of Bolts—I'm working on 'The Teenage Runaways' today and it's great fun.
  • Continued to edit and finesse the Counterpart cards as a team—70% are ready for final proofreading now.
  • Signed the papers on the production run with Panda—which means we can start pre-production soon!

Have a good month, enjoy the sunshine if you can 🌿
